Who I Am

I consider myself a hybrid between a professional investor, aka a “deal guy”, and a creative, strategic thinker searching for novel approaches to building new ventures. Having spent most of my 20-year career managing money or advising those who invest, across asset classes from venture, private equity to structured project financings and secured debt, I’d like to think that I know a good opportunity when I see one…then I turn to my operating partners who help figure out where I may be wrong, what the obstacles are and how to get from A to B… and hopefully Z !

Prior to co-founding Turnstone Capital, I have worked for The Prudential (power projects and LBOs), JP Morgan (managing private client money), a family office, and incubated a ABL hedge fund.  While working with my partners at Turnstone, I have helped launch three in-house ventures, funded multiple start-ups, have had successful exits, and am actively involved with Morgan Solar, our own Turnstone Environmental Technologies platform operating in India, and a wireless start-up in stealth mode.  I have great partners who not only are smarter than me, but are just plain old great guys, and one of our standard business philosophies is work with great people, with high integrity.  In doing so, we hope to make good friends, avoid the naysayers, and make a positive impact on society.

I am happily married with 3 kids, live in CT, and try and play as much golf and tennis as I can, which is not much.  I am an agonizing 12 handicap, and I like to travel, bike, watch the Yankees, and read fiction on long business trips . A former baseball pitcher in college, I still retain the hate-to-lose DNA and try and channel this into both my work, and my outlets – with mixed results ! ML
